DMARC Volunteer Opportunities

You Can Feed The Hungry -- "Sack Saturday"

Sponsored by Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC Emergency Food Pantry)

We are seeking small groups of volunteers to spend 2-4 hours on a Saturday encouraging shoppers to contribute needed food items to the Red Barrel located in each grocery store. As few as 2 people spending a several hours reminding shoppers of DMARC efforts to feed hungry families makes a big difference in the amount of food collected ultimately distributed at local food pantry site.

The DMARC Emergency Food Pantry [EFP] serves thousands and thousands of individuals and families seeking nutritious food from one of its neighborhood distributions sites. You [as well as your family, service club or church group] can help by spending just a few hours one weekend at a grocery store encouraging shoppers to purchase basic food items for the EFP Red Barrel located in that store. Your group spends 2-4 hours encouraging shoppers to support the Emergency Food Pantry. Through your help, DMARC receives needed food items that will be quickly placed into the hands of those most in need of our help.

Contributions made by shoppers at local grocery stores are crucial to helping DMARC fulfill it’s mission of serving the needy in our community. We seek volunteers who will make this small time commitment (2-4 hours) on a Saturday. DMARC provides the training and tools that will make your efforts successful! Join with us! You will "feel good" and "make a difference" for local families in need. Contact us today and see just how easy it is to help.

Help a Young Student Improve and Excel! – Project Connect Tutoring

There are hundreds of young students in elementary and middle school classrooms throughout our community who are reaching out, looking for encouragement and support. DMARC seeks tutors and mentors who have a passion to help youngsters learn. If you can spend just 1 hour each week, you will help a student learn, but also enhance their self-esteem—show that they are "special".

Project Connect is a cooperative effort of the Des Moines Public Schools, Big Brother and Big Sisters, and the Des Moines Area Religious Council. Serving selected elementary and middle schools, we are working with both public and parochial school students. Results show that Project Connect makes a real difference in the life of a young student. Join with us. See how just 1 hour a week can "make a difference" in someone’s life. Contact us today to see how easy it is to help.

You Can Feed The Hungry – Work Place Food Drives

We are seeking employees of companies or business units willing to conduct drives among their fellow employees to collect basic food items for the DMARC Emergency Food Pantry. Collection drives originating in local businesses play a key role in our ability to serve hungry people throughout our community.

The DMARC Emergency Food Pantry serves thousands and thousands of individuals and families seeking food from one of its neighborhood distribution sites. You, and your fellow employees, can help by conducting a food drive at your place of business. Individual collection drives can range from one week to one month in length [depending upon the desires of the employer]. Food collected is brought to the DMARC Emergency Food Pantry Warehouse and then packaged for distribution to neighborhood sites by other DMARC volunteers.

Food items collected by local businesses are vitally important to our success. We provide the training and tools that will make your efforts successful! Join with us! You will "feel good" and "make a difference" for local families in need. Contact us today to see just how easy it is to help.
