On November 18, 2008, the Des Moines area Hy-Vee Stores will be donating 26 pallets, or 8,472 boxes of cereal totaling more than $10,200 to the Des Moines Area Religious Council’s Emergency Food Pantry. The DMARC EFP helps feed the hungry of Des Moines by distributing food to families in need from nine pantry sites throughout the Greater Des Moines Area. This has been an annual donation that originated in 2003. For two weeks in September and October, the area Hy-Vee Stores have a “Colossal Cookie Sale” where they sell bakery fresh cookies for $.10 each and donate one penny from each cookie sold to DMARC. Over the past six years, these area Hy-Vee Stores have donated more than $40,000 in food to help feed the hungry through the DMARC EFP network of Emegrency Food Pantry sites.
